International shipping & Customs regulations

Regulations concerning shipping motor vehicles from USA are not complicated: US Customs only requires proof of ownership (see next chapter for the list of required documents).

There's NO TAX for exporting the vehicles and this applies to any motorized or towable unit: cars, motorcycles, RV's, yachts, trucks, motorhomes, trailers, buses, boats, agricultural & construction equipment, etc.

The import regulations of the country where the vehicle is going to may be more complicated. Most of the countries impose some sort of import taxes or duties plus there may be regulations concerning the age of the vehicle or its technical specifications. Rules differ from country to country and there's no general law. There are exceptions that allow duty-free importation for permanent residents or military personnel.

But it's always a good idea to check in advance. The good sources for this information are Local Customs office (or a Customs broker), Embassy or Consulate.
